You may remember my ear problems before my holiday. Because my GP thought it might be Menieres disease she wasn't happy with me driving so I haven't. But today I saw a consultant who said:
- It's not Menieres disease
- It's probably a one-off
- Could be caused by a virus or a faulty blood vessel
- Need to exclude a very unlikely benign overgrowth of nerve in the ear - will need MRI scan
- Get hearing aid adjusted toot sweet - if more hearing returns they can turn it down
- Can drive
- Can swim
- Check balance before cycling
- Look all round when crossing roads
So, I'm back in the action!
It's such a relief to be able to drive. The deafness is a nuisance, especially as there's no guarantee that turning up my hearing aid will help. But I will find a way to cope!

Well, that's good news! Glad to hear you're back in action.
Thank you, Talli!
That sounds encouraging in a slightly nerve-racking way. I do hope it all sorts itself out, which can happen.
Life is so tough, one really shouldn't have to put up with illness etc. as well as everything else... I may write a formal complaint.
OH that's good news!! Yes it is!!! You just need to turn your hearing aid to 11! LOL! Oh but seriously!! You can drive and do things now!! Yay!! Yes you can!! Take care

Yay! I'd definitely believe that doctor and not the first!
Lexi, thank you! I think a formal complaint is definitely in order! I'm hopeful that more hearing will come back but if not then I'll manage with what I've got!
Kitty, yay! Thank you!
Simon, for ear problems I'd trust an ENT specialist over a GP any day!
So once your hearing is back, you can stop looking all around when you cross the road? O.o
Polenth, now why didn't I think of that?
Very pleased about your good news!
Although I personally would hang on to any excuse not to drive [I am a big wuss].

Thanks, Miss S! I've felt a bit caged in without the car so I'm looking forward to getting out and about again.
Glad to hear you are driving again! I hope the deafness goes away soon. :/
Have you cleaned your ears? Sometimes too much wax can mimic these other things. Hydrogen peroxide helps me, but you should probably check with your physician before using it.
Really glad to hear you're getting back into the swing of things.
I'm relieved that it's not menieres disease, my father had a menieres attack last year and he wasn't deaf but he could only lie in bed for a few weeks! If he'd sit up he'd get so dizzy he'd throw up! And he couldn't bear light or sound!
I'm so happy you can drive! Gives you so much more freedom!
Stacy, the doctors looked in my ears and they're clean. The specialist did lots of tests and the trouble is much further in. Pity.
Lily, I'm sorry to hear about your father. I'm glad I'm not suffering from Menieres disease but sad to hear that he is.
