At least it's a skill that may be learned if it doesn't come naturally. I got most confused with the exercise described in the article (then again I've not had my coffee yet and my brain is asleep) but treating a human being with respect no matter the situation should really come naturally but if it doesn't then it should be part of the educational curriculum!
