Shocked

fumacinha 02
The Daily Mail has posted a sensible, balanced and thoughtful article. I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!

It's arguing that
Making cannabis legal would save police time, police priorities, the courts’ time and it would raise money. It is a commonsense and ‘liberal’ solution.
If even the Daily Mail can see this, what's wrong with the government? Oh, I forgot. They sacked one of their scientists for finding that alcohol is more dangerous than cannabis. Why should they listen to Professor Nutt now when his Independent Scientific Committe on Drugs finds the same thing?

The Daily Mail? Are you sure?

Ann, I know! I could hardly believe it!

Yes, some mistake surely? The Daily Mail?! You mean I agree with something The Daily Mail says? Nooooo!!!!

fairyhedgehog said...

Simon, I'm glad you agree too! I was beginning to think I'd turned into a Daily Mail Reader and I don't think I could bear that!

The Daily Mail. Bet they'd be saying differently if the government had legalised cannabis!! Sorry I'm being very horribly cynical about such a fine paper!!!! LOL!
p.s. but the cannabis debate should be - ahem - re-ignited sensibly and asap too!!!!

Take care

Kitty, what's the difference between a cynic and a realist? None that I can see!

Totally agree that pot should be legal. If wine's legal, post should be legal. That's my logic flow on the subject.

Robin S. said...

That's POT - not post. Damn. I canNOT type. Not well, anyway.

Robin, it makes such good sense but then California goes and votes against it when I had such high hopes of them.

What? Post is illegal now TOO!? That's where all my acceptance letters went! They've been confiscated!

But seriously, hasn't it also been proven that normal cigarettes are also far more dangerous? I'm continually stunned by the things people make illegal and the things they allow (like the KKK?)

MotherRe, it's shocking about the post, isn't it? Still at least you know where all those letters went, thanks to Robin.

Logic doesn't seem to get a look in when politicians discuss drug use. It's all about what will look good. (Although I don't see how the KKK can fit into that.)

Pot and LSD used to be legal. There's a medical research paper - somewhere - that a doctor wrote after he took a hit of LSD. And pot was used medically.

We tried! We sincerely tried! They said it's because the kids didn't get out and vote in enough numbers. But we still got more of a turnout for a mid-term election than usual - a lot more.

It didn't help that the Feds decided to blurt out that they would enforce the federal law if we said it was okay in the state. They did it when we approved it for medical use. Like they don't have enough trouble going after the illegal trade. But maybe it's because the legal one would be easier to find and they could claim it meant they were winning the war on drugs.

Sarah, that really sucks about the Feds. No wonder people weren't so keen to vote yes if it wouldn't be effectively upheld. What a mess!

That's interesting and it sort of contradicts the directive to commence from April 2011 from the EU in the UK,(which practically many people don't know about) on banning all herbal medicine supplied by practitioners or medical staff. It will also mean that current practitioners using herbal/natural medicine will be put out of practice.
Interesting how man-made medicine wins over natural medicine when it's existed before recorded history, far earlier than when made created modern medicine even through pharmaceutical means.
That is a strange article especially the last sentence, which clearly isn't backed up with any substance.
I think if cannabis would ever be made legal it would be better just used for medicinal purposes, via a practitioner or the doctor. As it does help in some ways, differing in individual. I can't imagine it ever be made legal as it would cause too much havoc and controversy and people would take advantage and mis-use it. That's probably the greatest weakness.
There is definitely something in that article that doesn't add up, and as usual with any other article it's usually hiding something. Not everything is as one perceives. Will keep an eye out for this. Thanks for the share.

Ana, I think the thing is that the article is the view of the paper - which is at variance with that of the government. The government can't afford to be seen to be "soft on drugs".

Maybe one day we'll have cannabis for medical conditions. I'm all for informing patients and letting them look after themselves.
