Superhero writing fun

The Legion of On-line Superheroes is now signing up members.

In case you missed this, Bevie is setting up a website where we can develop superhero characters and write an ongoing superhero story, or series of stories. It's collaborative writing at its best, or possibly at its most fun. Maybe it can be a place to kick back from the more serious writing that you normally do.

If you haven't made a superhero yet, you can make one at Heromachine. If you're not into playing with online picture makers then you could just describe your superhero, I'm sure one of us can come up with something for you!

(I'm not sure if Galbrogeth is a hero or a villain but why should the heroes always be good looking?)

If you want to be in at the start then You might want to head on over there now!

(So many 'ifs' in one short post. I must be feeling tentative today.)

Edited to add:

How to get a copy of the picture from Heromachine if you're using Windows:

Make sure your hero is fully visible on your screen and not partly obscured by a toolbar etc.

Click PrintScreen (PrtScn) on your keyboard.

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint.

In paint, click Edit -> Paste.

Save as a .jpg file.

You then need to cut out your picture. I use my printer software to do this because it's fiddly in paint. If you email the image to me, I'll cut it out for you and send it back.

(My disposable email address is anythingyoulike.fairyhedgehog@recursor.net but if you have my real one then you can use that.)

How did you get the pic to show up? When I tried it, all the html showed up instead of the pic.

Hmmm. Looks like an incredibly fun time waster. Except it does involve being creative. Hmmm.

The html has a different use. If you save the html, you can use it get your character back in the Heromachine to do more work on it.

Sarah - go on, you know you want to!

I had to abandon my superhero making the other day - I kept accidentally erasing all my fine work. Eventually I gave up and fed my children (bunch of whingers).

Although I see no reason for a superhero to be beautiful looking I will say that if I'm superheroifying myself - you can be damn sure I'm giving myself a 22" waist and a rack to die for.

I mean why wouldn't I?

Janey, It is annoyingly easy to delete things. I'm sure we're all looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

That hero machine is better than the one I posted.

I think I'll have to break out the digital tablet and come up with some cool character for myself. I am thinking I'll borrow from the Witchblade/Darkness art, which is hellaciously cool.

I'm in — but not immediately.

Will parachute in later...

That sounds pretty cool writtenwyrd.

Glad you're in, Whirl.

It is fun, and we haven't even written our stories yet.

Give it a go, Sarah! I read your blog. You're creative!

And there are no frequency requirements. Submit stories as often (or rarely) as you like.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, JaneyV. Just remember, this is PG-13. [haha]

Waiting with baited breath, Whirl.

Writtenwyrdd, the invite has been sent.

looks fun.
could i be an antihero like Rincewind?
hmmm.

fairyhedgehog said...

I hope you do join in, Platypus. I don't think we can have fanfiction but you can be inspired by Rincewind to create a character.

If you use the heromachine you'll probably find all kinds of ideas come up as you make your character. If you want to join in you'll need to send an email to me or Bevie so that we can invite you. I can be reached at signup.fairyhedgehog@recursor.net

That's a very good idea to create characters. I may give this a go later. Thanks, and Happy Holidays. :)

Hi Ana! It is great fun using the Heromachine, I hope you enjoy it.

I've just created a character, of how I am feeling at this moment. It's a neat little tool.

fairyhedgehog said...

Can we see it?

Ana said...

Sure. Where shall I post it? I've just sent it to your disposable e-mail address.

fairyhedgehog said...

Hi Ana, it looks cool! I've emailed Bevie to ask if it can go up on the Legions website - I'm guessing that's what you want?

Ana said...

Thanks, that is a kind thing to do. I would like that. :)
