When we first saw them, they were tiny. Rufus wasn't even called Rufus, he was Frankie Marmaduke. We didn't know then which of the five kittens we were going to take home, so the pictures may be of them or their littermates.
They cried all the way to our house and I felt so mean taking them away from their Mum. They clung together and played together almost all the time.
They still often eat together, although Bonnie likes to steal Rufus's food. Rufus jumps on Bonnie and they fight although Bonnie still sometimes grooms Rufus.
They have very distinctive characters. Rufus is rough, likes firm handling, and nips people when he is being petted. He can also be a sweetie and will lie back on my arm like a baby. Just don't touch his tummy if you value your fingers.
Bonnie is much softer and more timid, although she is less easily frightened than she used to be. She is very loving and doesn't like being on her own, even at four o'clock in the morning. This can be a problem when our bedroom door is shut.
Happy Birthday Rufus and Bonnie!

I'm ashamed to admit that your cats are almost cuter than me.
Wow! Thank you, Geoff. That's high praise indeed.
Happy birthday, btw.
And, yes, there's life after 14...
You're a mature lady, then, Geoff. Rowwrr!
Aw, cute kittens!
Happy birthday, Bonnie. Happy birthday, Rufus.
So, just two years younger than me to the month. I just had my birthday, but Bevie didn't post anything about it.
You are a couple of dearies.
Too gorgeous!
Awwwwww . . . .
Aw, this kinda got me misty-eyed. Brought me back to my childhood kitties. Sniff. Happy Birthday Bonnie and Rufus!
Happy Birthday to the babies - are you having gourmet canned food for all?
Nice to finally see Bonnie getting a little more mention.
They looked so tiny when you adopted them, I'm surprised that they were done nursing.
shame on Bevie not posting Firestar's birthday. tsk tsk tsk
Hey, what's with Geoff saying 'almost cuter'. ALL cats are just naturally cuter than people. No way can we compete with rolling on our back and putting our arms above our head!
Thanks for all your kind comments everyone.
I don't think I was clear: the top two photos show the kittens at their birth home, when we first visited them. The second set of photos shows them when we had brought them home. I think they were 12 weeks when we adopted them. If you click 'kittens' in the Label Cloud in the right sidebar you can see the story of how we got them and how they developed.
happy days, kitties :)
Seriously cute! Hope their birthday was full of salmon and late night kitty karaoke.
We were out most of the day and they didn't have salmon or kitty karaoke. (Brilliant idea there, Sarah!) But they did have two new kitty toys, including a ball that rolls randomly because of the rubber band and weight inside it. Of course, they've managed to lose that one already.
They are darling!
I'm at Jan's in glastonbury now-finally on a computer again.
It was beyond wonderful, see you guys!
awwwww....... happy b'day kitties...
*fondles stray cat*
Robin, I hope you're having fun at Glastonbury. It must feel good to get back online! And yes it was beyond wonderful.
Platypuspower, it's nice to see you around again. I'm glad you like kitties too.
Wow, wait. I remember when you got them and I'm sure it wasn't 9 months ago. More like a few weeks?
They were oh-so-cute then but they are gorgeous now!
Thanks, Sylvia!
