A Day In Hand: May 17th

As part of the International Day Against Homophobia, people are being encouraged to hold hand with a member of the same sex in public on May 17th. You can join the A Day In Hand group on Facebook, if you are interested. You don't have to be GLBT to join. Or visit the official A Day in Hand website.

I'm not sure how much prejudice there is against women holding hands in public but I'm guessing that it is much harder for men to feel accepted if they show affection like this. I suppose trying it out would be one way to find out.

I had no idea that there was such a day! Thanks so much for bringing this to your readers' attention!

Glad you like it, Elle.

I wonder who I could get the Hubby to hold hands with?
I love holding hands. I think it's one of the most romantic things to do. When I see an elderly couple holding hands, in particular, it warms the old cockles.

This is such a great idea. Hand-holding is wonderful.

My husband is going to an air museum with a friend on Sunday. I wonder what his reaction would be if I suggested that they hold hands...

Holding hands is a rare treat for me, except indoors, because the side I have to walk on for the sake of my limited sight is the side my wife uses her stick. :-(

I'm don't give a damn what people think so I'm up for it on the 17th - my physical size makes it unlikely to anybody will dare try it on. ;-)

I do relate to that Richard. Husband and I both have our deafest ear on the same side. It makes for some interesting conversations.

Hmm. My wife and I hold hands almost every day. But you're right - it is harder for the men and also a bit more dangerous in certain parts of this country.

I'd love to know if your hubby and his friend hold hands on Sunday.

Now, how about a cheer for Iowa and the unanimous Supreme Court decision in favor of gay marriage?

My Beloved laughed at the idea of holding hands with his friend, so I think that tells us how unlikely men are to hold hands. But maybe it would be different if they really were a couple. I wouldn't want to hold hands with all of my friends, not because of what people would think but because we don't have a touchy feely relationship.

Yay to Iowa! I hadn't realised it was unanimous.

I'll have to pick a cute friend to help me out!

Good idea McK. We've got plenty of time as it isn't until May!

Hadn't thought of that - but hand-holding for men would be a tough concern to overcome.

fairyhedgehog, give your beloved a kiss, and tell him it's from me! ;-)

fairyhedgehog said...

Richard, that's going to go so well!

Dare... >;-)

Double dare you to? Nah, that's not going to work.

Hello this is David, I am the founder of A Day In Hand. I love your discussion. Keep it up. Thanks so much for publishing this! Straight people need to get invested in gay rights, for they are human rights.
I have a much better pic you could use for the top of the article.

Thanks, David. I won't update the picture on this post because I mean to make another one nearer the day to remind people. I'll take some of the photos and happily credit the photographers.

Thanks for your input.
