If anyone is struggling to keep going during Nano, you might like to try Write or Die. Using this program* you write for a specified time or number of words and if you stop writing there are consequences, ranging from nagging pop-up boxes to irritating songs or in Kamikaze mode loss of words.
It's a bit of fun but I prefer to keep myself going by updating my progress spreadsheet every 300 words. (Or every 50 words if things are going badly.)
*The funny little semi-transparent window at the top of the Write or Die page is the actual application.

That's funny! I'm going to try it this afternoon and see how I do. :)
Can I use this for my term paper? ; )
I'll wait to hear how you both do! I'm not brave enough to try it.
Haha, that's actually pretty cool.
I keep thinking your post title is the opposite of Spock saying "Live long and prosper", only with writing thrown in to throw us off the scnent, sort of.
OK, it's not as scary as it sounds. The background starts changing colour if you don't type, heading from pink to red as a sort of countdown. That's plenty of warning for me and simply hitting return resets it.
BUT interesting - I often write in 15 minute intervals and I know that that tends to end up with around 500 words. The system doesn't have 15 minutes as an option so I chose 10. I did it twice, both times ended up right at 400 words. So it looks like for that last 5 minutes I'm at half speed - maybe I'll swap to 2 shifts of 10. :)
Now that's useful to know: that you write in bursts of ten minutes!
