Typing Problem

It's very hard to type with a cat resting on your left arm.

Heh. Now you have a good excuse.

I've managed to add a measly 300 words this week. Not going well!

I'm sorry it's not going well, freddie.

Hah. Good one, WO. Would've thought Geoff would leave such a comment.

Hang in there everyone! I know the NaNo can be a pain and wanting to give up is strong. But I think there's a lot to be said for seeing it out to the end no matter what your word count.

It's certainly getting me to write more than I have in a long while.

OK. I'm going to wax philospohic here.

The NaNo, for me, was more like a series of workshops than an experience in writing a good novel. I learned how fast I can write. I learned I only have writer's block when I'm trying too hard to write good words. And I learned to not give up on my writing goals. I may not reach them, for whatever reason, but giving up is worse than not reaching my goal.

Goals are meant to be tweaked to fit with what we can do given life situations and individual ability.

I also learned that writing 50,000 words in 30 days seriously burnt me out on writing until February.

A word count tip. Have a couple characters have a childish argument where they repeat their lines at each other. Copy and paste to boost word count and sagging spirits.

I take it you're not doing it this year?

I'm finding I want to edit as I go and that holds me up as does my slow typing.

It's great for letting the creative juices flow but it's hard to let go of the story in my head to allow the story that I can actually write to emerge.

So far I've used no deliberate tricks to pad the word count but there is still plenty of time left.
