According to my extensive research on the T-Mobile website, these are the rules for web design:
- Do not under any circumstances provide obvious links
- Any coloured text must NOT be a link
- Pictures must NOT be used as links
- Hide all links in menus that only appear when clicked
- Make menus as unobtrusive as possible (bonus points if no users at all are able to find them)
- Insist that your users contact your help service for any and all details rather than allowing them to browse for themselves online
- Make it pretty

fs, I think they used to be a lot better than they are now, with very good customer service. Sadly, no more.
Mind you, they aren't the only offenders for unusable websites; the trend currently seems to be to make webpages pretty and uncluttered at the expense of making them easy to use. (Gmail, I'm looking at you!)
I can only agree - the current trend toward minimalism in user-interface design is becoming obsessive. It's the triumph of appearance over actual usefulness. The latest iPad operating system is another case in point...
Simon, I wonder where it will go next. I hope we're reaching the end of this swing of the pendulum and we'll start to see more sites moving back into usability soon!
Hehehe! That list is enough to put anybody off for life! Blogger has its quirks and foibles, but is a doddle by comparison. Well, it let me get here fast enough this morning, didn't it?! LOL
Jinksy, Blogger I can cope with but there are rather a lot of "new improved" websites that are a pain in the bum when you try to get around them.
Make sure that at least a third of the links (when people eventually find them) don't work.
Allow really annoying adverts to pop up on top of anything that anyone's trying to put their cursor over.

What *has* happened to web design recently?
Oh dear, it seems I'm doing several things incorrectly.
One of the things that I'd personally add to the list is don't have music that automatically plays when ever someone links to your page. Generally played at volumes, the number of times I've jumped when music is blasted at me unexpectedly.
Tracy, I usually roam the net with my sound off, but when I forget it can really make you jump! Another one for Room 101!
