I've levelled up!
I have brand new hearing aids free on the NHS! And they have volume controls! Yay!
As a truly bionic person I have now offically levelled up!*
Apparently not everyone is in love with their hearing aids. I can't understand it - I haven't got good hearing in one ear now, even with them, but it's a bloody sight better than it would be without them. So yay for being a cyborg!
You can see my previous aids here.
*Thanks to Lily-Razz for that phrase.

Ooh, very sleek and stylish! You are obviously one of the suave, sophisticated cyborgs--not like those tiresome steampunk ones with the whirring gears and belching clouds of smoke.
Ear, ear! I think those make quite the fashion statement! :)
If you attach a long white cord to them, you can pretend they're a secret Apple device that you've been chosen to test. ;-)
Kitty, they really are sleek!
jj, I'd settle for clouds of smoke if it helped me to hear better. (But I'm glad the whirring and smoke isn't needed!)
Gary, *groan* they do indeed!
Sarah, if I could persuade my husband that would work maybe he'd get the hearing aids he needs!
Those are cool! How do they work?
Your husband might want this iPhone megaphone: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/08/iphone-megaphone.html
When I say "How do they work?" I mean, how well do they work?
Excellent!
I love my eyeglasses, and you'd better believe I'd be there with bells on (even if I could not personally hear them) if I needed a hearing aid. I at least want the *option* of ignoring what people are saying :)
Stacy, they're much better than my last ones and I'm noticing the difference. For a start I can now hear the oven timer go off when I'm in the living room!
The right ear is a bit hissy - the ear just isn't working right since "the Crash" (which is what I find myself calling the sudden attack of whatever-it-was that left me deaf in that ear). None of it sounds quite right yet but it is clearer than it was and it always takes a while to get used to any changes. And I love having a volume control!
MRP, that's it exactly! And at least I know I'm doing everything I can to hear well *unlike some people*. (I.e. my Beloved, who is as deaf as I was before "the Crash" but won't get aids.)
