The future is here...
...with a flavour-changing cookie!
You choose a flavour from a computer, then as you go to eat the plain cookie an image of the appropriate texture is projected on to it and the right scents are wafted to your nose. Almond or chocolate? The same cookie can be any one of seven flavours.
You just can't get more extreme in writing sci fi than real life already is.

I think they need to return to the designing board and do something about the headgear! LOL!!
The article nor the video don't say whether it'll survive being dunked in a good cup of tea!
:-)
Take care

Maybe they can project the dunked texture. But an image of the right texture making it taste like that texture? Hm. Not so sure of that one.
Also not sure the scent will make my taste buds react as my nose is not in the best of shape. Could be interesting to try. Especially if it makes blech diet cookies taste like old fashioned chocolate chip.
I suppose I should read the article now.
can't fool me that way, i KNOW what's what :P lol
Kitty, straight to the point as always! What good is a biscuit you can't dunk?
Sarah, it would be great if it could make diet cookies taste good. Although the headset isn't any kind of fashion statement!
laughingwolf, glad to hear you know what's what! I think it would be fun to try though.
Wouldn't you get helmet hair from that contraption?
I can see it now...the next trend in fad diets. Buy your helmet, eat rice cakes and lose, lose, lose.
Inkpots n' Quills
Ann, if only it weren't for the helmet hair it might catch on!
This is brilliant. I wonder if the idea can be used to make vegetables take like chocolate-chip cookies for the kids? Can you imagine?
"I get the last serving of veggies!"
"No, I get it. Hey, Mom! She took the last aspargus spears. I get her allowance for the week!"
Wendy that would be wonderful! For my grown-up kids too!
Sarah: Actually, most of our sense of taste is actually sense of smell. You can prove this to yourself by closing your eyes and trying to guess jelly bean flavours with your nose plugged. You can't do it!
The beanies taste sweet, but it's only after you unplug your nose that you can tell what flavour they are. (And then the flavour is instantaneously obvious--it's really a neat effect!)
Well that explains why my palate is not refined. My sense of smell is iffy at best having grown up not being able to breathe through my nose most of the time. I'm keen on texture though and don't see that a picture will be the same.
I wonder how many people would pick the same flavour every time?
Like owning a chameleon and painting it orange?
Jen and Sarah, I always find it hard to believe how much smell is a part of taste.
Whirl, I'd probably always go for chocolate. Painting the chameleon - what a great image.
Well that's pretty amazing. I'd be interested to try it, you know, help them with their research... might have to test each flavour several times to be sure.. hehe :)
What a great idea, Silentvoice. Maybe we could apply together!
