When inspiration doesn't strike

What do you do when inspiration doesn't strike? There's an interesting post at The Stellar Café about just this. Peter Reynolds' suggestion is not to write anything but to paint or draw something instead.

I think I might give it a try. Doodling around with a pen seems much less demanding than actually writing something and who knows what it might lead to?

It's worth popping across to The Stellar Café to read the original post.

Hi

I've just read the post from Stellar Cafe and went "aww" at the end of it!

Yes, definitely, get doodling! Me, I put on music or watch telly or raid YouTube for interesting clips or read blogs. :-)

Take care

Kitty, I liked the Stellar Café post a lot too.

Doodling's a good idea. Going for a walk helps, too, I find.

My drawings don't inspire me. They just remind me of why I write instead of draw.

For me, I have to take my mind off of stressful things and let it relax. Easier said than done, but once done I can write a long time.

How bizarre. I have a doodle from my trip to the pub last night primed on the scanner as a potential post. I may, in fact, go ahead with that later today...

I read poetry - but I think any craft/art thingy would work, realignes the synapses.

Simon, walking is a very good idea. I think I need to do that today.

Bevie, I know you're in a lull at the moment but you usually seem to be bursting with ideas.

Whirl, I'll look forward to seeing that.

Bernita, you may be right, although I'm sure reading poetry wouldn't work for me!

That's a lovely looking blog!
I felt rather rough this morning and decided that I was going to do absolutely nothing today. Hey hum, I ended up writing instead!

Scarlet, writing is good. Are you going to tell us what you wrote?

I'm with Scarlet — great visuals on the blog.

Checked out the post on Stellar Cafe. What a wonderful idea. Will be pulling out chilrens old watercolours and giving it a whirl.

Whirl, you mean the Stellar Café blog?

Ann, it is a good idea, isn't it? I prefer pencil, though, it's less messy. Now I just need to find a pencil!

Nope — here.

It's like the inside of a wizard's brain.

Hehe! Thanks Whirl!

It's a great way to break the tyranny of the blank white page.

I doodle when I'm trying to concentrate on something I'm finding seriously tedious. Some of my workbooks have more drawing than notes.

I can't draw worth a darn, but I like to drive along listening to my favorite music and just letting my mind wander as I drive along, and this works for me, as a mental doodle. Words come, ideas pop. I pull over and write like a madwoman on my pad. Love this experience when it happens!

This is wonderful! I am sure that doing something with my hands helps to unhinge the knots in my head (er, and possibly helps me to make sensible metaphors) but I always forget.

I shall doodle too.

(toodleloo?)

Kevin, that sounds like a good idea.

Robin, I like the idea of a mental doodle.

Sylvia, you're pretty good at art and crafts. I look forward to seeing your doodle too!
