The Crabbit Old Bat's Birthday Bash
Scottish children's author Nicola Morgan, aka The Crabbit Old Bat, is having a blog birthday party today over at Help! I Need A Publisher! She's offering the chance to advertise your blog in her comments trail and encouraging people to visit each other's blogs. If you've got a blog about writing you might like to pop over there and have a look.

I couldn't resist the sound of a blog about books, writing and cats. In fact it sounds very similar to mine! Nice to meet you.
Helen, nice to meet you too. I need to get more cats back into this blog - I don't take so many photos now they're not kittens.
Just popped over from Nicola's party for a wee breather in your 'house'... the music can be so loud at parties.
I was interested to read that you are a cat person. I have a cat, and she is vocal and affectionate and clean and mostly well-behaved (except she keeps deliberately knocking things off the side-board as some sort of game). I am not really a cat person, or a pet person... but she's slowly winning me round.
I read what you said about keeping your stories under wraps until they are written because talking about them can take away the impetus for writing them. My first novel was a journey of discovery, like reading, not fully knowing what was going to happen next. Now I do not always (ever?) fully plan out a story... just so that writing it is a sort of journey to find out how it all unfolds... I can talk about my thoughts, but in vague terms because I do not fully know myself what will happen. Just an idea.
Good luck with everything.
Douglas
Hi Douglas,
I didn't know I liked cats until we started keeping them. That was nearly twenty years ago, now.
I like the idea of writing as a journey. I tend to get anxious and feel sure that I can't finish.
Hi, just popped over from Nicola's party. Nice to meet you.
I so agreed with what you said about Avatar.
Michael
Hi,
Just popped over from Nicola's party and from your comment on my Spellmaking blog. Love your blog - I've become a follower! I haven't seen Avatar yet but definitely will. Best seen on the big screen I'm sure.
Hi Michael, thanks for visiting! I'm glad you liked Avatar too.
Hi Simon, Thank you! I'm sure that Avatar is definitely best in huge 3D.
hello Fairyhedgehog - what a lovely blog! Only one disagreement - Avatar. Oh dear, I think I'm in a minority but I have not been so bored for a long time. I tried very hard to go to sleep!
Apart from that, I have found lots to agree with on your blog!
And I don't think there's anything unsensible about eating a chocolate brownie!
Hi
As a very nervous and extremely newbie sometime writer still learning the ropes (currently how to write poetry - open uni course)and only started to blog on the 1 Jan 2010, I thought I'd start with a someone who likes cats!
(Phew - what a long sentence. )
I'm glad I did though as I'm enjoying reading your blog.
I also adore hedgehogs. Unfortunately the last live one I saw was a few years ago now. What a shame.
Take care
Hi Nicola, Thanks for visiting and for your kind words!
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Avatar. Maybe you need an actual plot to keep you happy!
Oh, and I had a fudge brownie today so I'm glad to hear it's not unsensible. It was certainly delicious.
Old Kitty, pleased to meet you. There's a few cat lovers visit this blog.
I see from your blog that things are rather fraught on the cat front at the moment. That's sad and you have my sympathy.
I haven't commented on your poetry because I don't "do" poetry. In fact, there's a post in the pipeline about that.
Hi!
I love the pics of your cats - Bonnie and Rufus. Aren't they just adorable???? I've not stopped going "awwwwwwwwww" and more "awwwwwwwwwwwww".
:-)
You know, I feel tired after work, I'm cold, I'm stuck with the poetry writing, my cat is still asleep and then I click on a few pics of cats so obviously loved and adored and just being cats that the world just makes sense once more.
So thank you!
p.s. At the moment, for me, learning to write poetry is like learning a different language. I'm finding it extremely challenging. I appreciate it all the more now though.
I look forward to your post about it!
Old Kitty, I'm glad the cat pictures cheered you up. I get the same effect from LOLcats.
I think I need to follow your blog, to learn a thing or two about the brief post! (Mine are mostly long). I write about writing, editing, books and publishing and I just always have so much to say! Anyway nice to meet you and I look forward to following your blog!
Looks like a good one, you digger outer of interesting stuff, you.
Karen, nice to meet you. I have a feeling your posts are longer because you have more to say!
Fairyhedgehog, I love your blogging name!
Great looking blog! I popped over from Nicola's party & am following you now :)
Whirl, it is a good one (and thank you for the kind words).
Colette, thank you. I stole the name from Terry Pratchett.
Thanks, Jemi, and welcome.

As in Nanny Ogg's favourite song?
Sorry to lower the tone if not.
Hi Dave, it was Nanny Ogg but not the Hedgehog song. In Witches Abroad she tells Little Red Riding Hood that the witches are fairies: Fairy Daisy, Fairy Tulip and Fairy Hedgehog.
By the way, the Hedgehog song isn't lowering the tone in here. I have a very robust attitude to strong language!
Oh, and I love the title of your blog!
Haha, no I THINK I have a lot to say, but really I need to not say it all! Love your blog!
I'm just popping by from Nicola Morgan's blog as well. I saw writing/books/cats as your blog identity and felt we must be kindred spirits! I blog about the books I read, my adventures developing a writing career, and my cats (my own, Buffy, and our two new foster kittens for the SPCA!). Nice checking out your blog. :)
Karen, I'm laughing but really you do have a blogful of good stuff.
Guinevere, Another cat lover! I'm not sure I could foster kittens. My two were so cute when tiny but so much work. They're mostly easier to live with now.
Nice to meet you!
It's nice to meet another Cat person
Mr C
Mr C, That's a very weird picture! Thanks for visiting and I enjoyed my visit to your blog.
Hi there fairyhedgehog. Just stopping in from Nicola's party. Enjoyed your post. Nothing wrong with chocolate brownies! Delighted to have found your blog. Looking forward to reading more.
Hi Ann, thanks for visiting! The trouble with chocolate brownies is that my waistbands are all too tight. And they're elasticated! I seem to have lost all my willpower over Christmas.
