Search engine

Thank to AnaG I've found a new search engine that claims to pay you for searching. Whether that works or not I have no idea but there are other interesting features such as being able to vote on and comment on the links that come up.

It relies on Google, MSN, and Yahoo results and you can choose what weight is given to each. If you want to go and look at it, it is called Scour and I'll be interested to hear what you think about it. (The link is a referral link so I get credit for your searches. If you want a clean link it's www.scour.com)

I use goodsearch.com because it gives money to my chosen charity. I imagine this could be the same principle.

Giving the money to charity sounds like a much better idea. I'm never going to surf enough to make any money worth having, whereas if a lot of people support a charity all those small amounts will add up.

What stops me from leaving Google is the nifty little doodad in the toolbar that allows you to search a page for the search terms you've used. I use that all the time.

Hmmm.. I shall look into this further, but I guess this search engine will keep tabs on my searches as I have to sign up to it? Not that i ever search for things I shouldn't!!! you know what I mean though?!

Hello Fairyhedgehog,
I hadn't realised I had sent you this, but I am glad that I did. I have not yet tested this out myself. I thought to send it out to others, and see what they would make of it first. Keep us posted on your experiences. :) Nice to be back.

I've been trying out Scour lately.

I was never one to do any of the "get paid to search" type places. I 'did' try out Swagbucks, but I found myself constantly searching through them....and then going to Google to do the same search because I ended up with so many sponsored or irrelevant search results.

Scour seems to be better because it actually pulls from the top search results and there aren't any sponsored (read: spam, heh) links in between. The points are guaranteed, too....with Swagbucks, you have a "chance" of winning points with every search. The downside is that it would take lots and lots of searches (or tons of referrals) to really get any where with it. I'm still enjoying trying it out, though.

I'm always on the lookout for an alternative to Google, and since Hotbot is very hit-or-miss and Altavista isn't what it used to be, I'll take a look.

Exactly what WO said - I've been hoping to find something to replace the hole that Altavista left and so I'm happy to give it a go. Google have way too much of my data already.

Scarlet: I can understand your reticence, but your blog tends to give you away anyway!

AnaG: I had to check to see who referred me and it was you! I gather you're not using it at the moment.

Jessi: I always like trying out a new search engine but I always come back to Google. So far, anyway.

pjd: Damn! I think you're right.

Whirl and Sylvia: Let us know how you get on.
