Let's all get naked!

Actually, let's not all get naked here in England while the cold winds blow and the flood waters rise. In France, though, in summer on the beach it sounds like a fun idea.

A charming French book for children called Tous à Poil, which translates as "Everyone (gets) Naked", is causing rather a stir  because it shows people doing just that. Its drawings of naked bodies aren't like the photos you see everywhere that are so heavily airbrushed and photoshopped that everyone looks like a Barbie doll. Instead they show children a more realistic picture of what people look like under their clothes and that sounds like a good idea to me.

Interestingly, since politicians have denounced it on French tv, sales have rocketed. Nice work, French MPs!

Would I take it in to work? (At an after-school club for primary age children.) Probably not. I'd be too worried about the reaction from teachers and parents, which is a shame. Would I read it to my grandchildren (if I had any)? Almost certainly yes. What about you?

Seems cool to me.

I wonder if I could get the French government to denounce something I've written?!

Simon, that's definitely the way to go. Now, how can you outrage the French sufficiently?

Funny for the French to be uptight! Must be too many Brits over there!

Ms Scarlet, that would make sense! I know when we visited Brittany in the summer there were whole villages that seemed to consist mostly of British expats. Maybe it's a cunning UK plan to take over our nearest neighbour!

Well I'm no model shape. I approve of realistic images.

MAJ, I don't know anyone who is a model shape seeing that all the models these days are heavily photoshopped to look like they do!

I think it's a good idea, also. A more realistic portrayal of the human body and less chance for a child to grow up with insecurities about their body.

Enjoy Sunday and hopefully, less rain.

Gary, it would certainly be nice if children could grow up more accepting of their own and other people's bodies. Have a good day! (We have sunshine here - I hope you do too!)

Awwww it looks adorable and utterly tame and safe and normal. So normal. Just watched that Monsieur Cope flick through the covered up pages of this book - he was speaking very fast and sounding ever so outraged! Silly man!

Take care

Kitty, I agree. I wonder how M. Cope would feel hearing himself described as a silly man! He certainly didn't achieve what he was aiming at!

They don't really mind people going topless in France though do they, on the beach? Maybe there would be more of a furore here, when people don't tend to take anything off unles they can help it. (Or perhaps I am just not able to shake myself out of winter mode right now)

Jenny, I think in England you'd need to be on a naturist beach, which given our climate doesn't really tempt me!

I've gone topless in France and nude in Spain and I prefer topless because then I'm more protected from sea and sand getting into personal places! I think there are nude beaches in France too though.

At the moment with the storms raging the thought of taking any clothes off at all isn't the least bit inviting!
