What to do when you're bored

A naughty insect bit me a couple of weeks ago and this weekend my leg reacted as if it had been burned, turning bright red and blistering. The picture here (not for the faint-hearted!) is of my leg after the antibiotics had started to work so it's not even at its worst. The line of black biro is where the doctor drew round the edges of the redness to see if it was still spreading.

I have to sit with my foot raised to reduce swelling and I can't go to work. I feel like I should be enjoying being able to crochet and read and surf the net with no guilt feelings and do you know what? All I want to do is to get out and move around. I'm just glad you can't die of boredom.

I'm missing cycling. I'm missing walking. Heaven help me, I'm even missing work!

Any suggestions on what I can do for the next day or two until I'm back on my feet again?

Goodness, poor you! Whatever insect was it? How lucky we are to have modern drugs.

I like the drawing round the red area in biro idea - is this standard practice or the ingenuity of your doctor?

My suggestion: write a prize-winning short story.

Lexi, I didn't see what did it! The biro was a good idea but I've no idea if it's standard practice or not.

Hmm, write a prize-winning short story. That's a nice, easy challenge, then. If only I could get my brain to work!

Eek! Read and write! The biro thing is common practice I think. I'm married to a microbiologist and that's what she does with me. When I have something similar I mean...

Simon, well that's more about your personal life than I expected to find out!

I'm reading. I'm crocheting. Oh, whoops, you said "write" didn't you? Do blog posts count?

Thanks, Kitty! The antibiotics seem to have stopped it from spreading. I hope. Now I just need to get better so I can get back to work.

Yikes! That looks painful!

Do you have a Netflix account? Some great stuff is right there online, including Dr. Who. ; )

Feel better soon, Fairy ...

stacy, the blister on the other side of the ankle looks even worse! Thank heavens for ibuprofen!

I've got a few things to watch saved up on BBC iPlayer but my son has Netflix so I might ask him about that. I've been watching MythBusters! (I quite like that program.)

You could try counting to 1,254,503 to see if there are any numbers missing.

Hope your bulge re-calfs soon.

Whirl, excellent plan! If there are any missing, I'll let you know.

Oh, you poor thing! (((hugs))) That does look nasty; I hate to think how bad it was when it looked nastier!

You obviously need to hire some solid lads--preferably shirtless and oiled up--to carry you around in a litter.

jj, that's brilliant! Now why didn't I think of that? I wonder if Patrick Stewart is busy.
