What a waste of money!

Every state school in England is to receive a new copy of the King James Bible from the government – with a brief foreword by Michael Gove, the education secretary, to mark the 400th anniversary of its translation.
from The Guardian.

Why not a complete works of Shakespeare instead? Not that that would be any more accessible to the 4 - 11 year olds in our primary schools, so I hope they're not included in the Biblefest.

Well at least its a print book. But it would be nice if such a move is not restricted to just this one book. But it looks like it is. Oh dear.

Take care

Quite agree! Send them Shakespeare. Or Darwin.

My 8-year old on explaining what she might like for Christmas : "I don't want anything ... Jesious". This made me smile.

Kitty, I'd be surprised if any of the children read it! Now, a nice Terry Pratchett book would at least get read!

Simon, that comment from your eight-year old made me smile too!

I think it's a great idea, in that it's one of the most influential fairy-stories of all time... although they didn't need to spend *any* public money to do it.

All they needed to do was tap The Gideons on the shoulder and I'm sure they'd have been delighted to oblige.

Richard, do the Gideon's supply the King James Version? My problem with this particular fairy story is that it's the only one that grown-ups are supposed to go on believing!
