We're back! I had a great time after all, despite being totally deaf in one ear. It made understanding the French rather more interesting!
Good points:
- Lovely clean flat with a view over the heated swimming pool
- Right near shops, restaurants and a pretty beach
- Wonderful food including chocolate mousse to die for. Holiday calories don't count.
- The abbey at Le Mont Saint-Michel was fun to explore and gave me ideas for children's stories
- The Isle Des Moines was picturesque and we walked for miles. (Yes, this is a good thing!)
- Colourful streets in Vannes and a wonderful museum with a roomful of medieval pictures. I'm a sucker for medieval art; I love the way they paint a close-up scene and then in the background there's a whole other story going on.
- To be continued...
Less good points:
- Rain
- More rain
- Raining again
It's a damned good job we came prepared with raincoats and umbrellas.
Eventually the sun came out and left us with only one bad point: no internet. Ye gods how I missed all of you! What have you been up to while I've been gone?

Yay!!! Awwwwww - how are you?? Were you ok? Looks like you had a brilliant time!! Rain? Quelle is this rain?! LOL!!
Well so long as you and yours had a wonderful break and that you are all feeling better!!
Take care
x
Welcome back! :) I have some rather fond memories of France, well except for the public toilets ....
I've been away myself over in British Columbia and had quite the profound experience.
All the best and yes indeed, welcome back! :)
Welcome back! I'm so glad that the good points greatly outweight the bad, even though rain can indeed be sucky in great quantities like that, bleh.
Oh, sweetie, I didn't know you lived in such a modest abode. You can't have more than 60 or 70 rooms there. Tch tch. At least you have a bit of beachfront.
And going to a third-world country without the interweebs? *shudder*
Still, it sounds like you had a fabulous time so huzzah for that!
And I'll match your rain, rain, rain with drought, drought, drought ;o(
Welcome back!!!
Kitty, thank you. I did have the most wonderful break ever. We knew it was going to be wet so we just braced ourselves for it and there was so much to see and do! I'm still totally deaf in one ear but I'll see what the doctor can do to help.
Gary, thank you! The public toilets have (mostly) improved but I did take wet wipes with me to cope with a certain lack of soap! I'll pop over to your blog and see what you've been up to in British Columbia.
Jessi, we were determined not to let the rain ruin it for us and it didn't! And it cleared up later in the week. It was even hot on Sunday!
Phoenix, one has to rough it sometimes, darling! I tell you though, being without the net is terrible - you miss all your friends and you can't even look the simplest thing up. Sorry to hear about your drought. That's not good for the plants.
Welcome back! It's too bad about the rain, but I'm glad it was a lovely trip regardless.
I've been doing something very similar to you, but I have to wait just a few days before I can tell you about it. :)
jj, thanks! I can't wait to read about what you've been doing.
Glad you had a fun time. That looks awfully like St Michael's Mount in Cornwall behind you - is it the French version?
Chocolate mousse sounds good too!
Missed you fairy! The chocolatemousse sounds nice and I agree that holiday calories don't count!!!
We also had "il pleut" in Holland.. garbage weather! C'est la fin des haricots!! Good thing you didn't let it ruin your holiday, that's the spirit! Sounds like you enjoyed and I hope you get your hearing back soon!!!
Oh by the way I wanted to change my poll and add "creative writing" but I couldn't since people already voted!! Sorry!!
Lily, missed you too! I'm sorry you had the same manky weather as we did; I didn't know that French phrase about the haricots! Oh, and no worries about the poll, I was just sayin'.
tres mauvais rain but glad you had fun!
We've had a lot of rain, too.
It sounds like you had a lovely time, regardless. So glad you're back!
YAY! Glad you had a good (if soggy) time - and looking forward to seeing you sometime this summer!
Clair, the name is Mont St-Michel so it's pretty similar! And Brittany is very much like Cornwall. Only French.
McK, thank you!
Stacy, the good bit about being back is talking to you and the other good folks here!
Robin, oh yes! I'm looking forward to it!
Wow Fairy! You're truly missed when you're gone!!! :D
While I was reading your post I wondered which funny French phrases you heard on your holiday!
I posted some of my favourite French quotes on my blog immediately! Have you heard some of them??

Lily, you've got some good ones there!
