Naked women reading
A naked woman reads books (presumably aloud) to a roomful of people.
The show is called Naked Girls Reading. I found the information in the Book Trade News Digest, which you can subscribe to here and there are more details in The Globe and Mail.
All I can think of is, "Why?"
20 COMMENTS:
My question exactly...Why?
And where are the Naked Boys Reading??? :-)
take care
x
Ann, you and me both.
Kitty, very good point!
The reason that's the only thing you can think of is b/c you're not thinking like a man, who doesn't ask why. He simply says, "Thank you."
You know, I think I can see the appeal. Mind you - it would depend on what she was reading ...
Only two questions I have:
1. Why NOT?
2. What took so long?
Actually, I bet the answer to #2 is that it's not a new idea at all, only a recently re-thought-of idea that will fade quickly once more.
My favorite quote: "In burlesque, we unveil our bodies. In Naked Girls Reading, we unveil our souls."
So really it's a religious and spiritual thing. They should do this in church, too, says I. I think there's some connection there to Adam and Eve, but right now I'm having a hard time putting my finger on it. Metaphorically.
I'm with Pete. At least on the first question - why not?
We have services here that will clean your house - naked - both male and female. It's a no touch policy - which is great.
I'm all for good clean fun. And appreciating beauty in all its forms.
Oh, dear Lord. Seriously?
Wendy, true. I wonder if I'd have felt as perplexed if it had been nude men, as Kitty suggested.
Simon, I believe you!
Peter, well, I suppose why not is as good a reason as any. It still seems strange to me.
Sarah, I think I'd find naked housecleaning really awkward. I feel in the way as it is when our kind lady comes and cleans my house for me but if she was naked...
Talli, it seems to be!
I'm interested to see how different everyone's responses are. I thought I was OK with nudity but my WTF reaction shows me that maybe I'm not.
We don't have a housecleaner anymore, but when we did - nope - did not want to see her naked.
Guess I'm sexist, ageist, sizeist, whateverist that way.
And I think it gets in the way of actually doing a good job cleaning the house. But as an occassional novelty? Sure. I'm there.
That is quite insane. Unless she's reading Lady Godiva or something it sounds like it would take away from the story rather than add to it.
Sarah, I'm not sure it's a novelty I'd fancy - but then I do tend to prefer men.
Taryn, I'd probably find it very distracting. I enjoyed Dominic West reading The Moment You Were Gone but he did have his clothes on.
@ Taryn: Since when did 'art' require 'sanity'?
@FH: I suppose one thing they're exploring is the relationship between nudity and sexuality.
There's obviously some overlap, but nudity isn't 'just' about sex... it's the *natural* state of humanity and the shame/embarrassment a lot of people have about it is the unnatural thing.
Are they inviting the audience to contemplate the boundaries of their comfort-zone?
Richard, it's a Burlesque Club I believe, it's all young pretty women ("girls"), and they talk about carefully choosing accessories like shoes and stockings, so I'm not sure it's simply about being in a natural state.
Now if the audience was naked as well...
the "boy" parallel would be "Naked Men Watching Sports... and scratching."
yeah, see if you can get that image out of your brain.
Ah, but a naked gay man would be a totally different stereotype.
@FH: If the audience were naked as well I'd probably be a lot more comfortable than you would, as it wouldn't be anything new to me.
Many years ago, I saw many completely nude members of a naturist club scandalised by a young lady dressing up in burlesque gear to mime along with Madonna singing "Hanky Panky".
The issue was that suddenly something innocent *became* sexy by putting a stereotypical type of clothes *on*.
I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure what it is. :-)
hmmm..... whatever floats your boat I suppose! I won't be volunteering (and that is probably a relief for everyone!)
Ha!!!!!!!!!!
Oh gee thanks, T.E.L! I like to start my day with a laugh.
Sarah, true. Naked men of any sort affect me differently from women.
Richard, I don't know what the lesson is either. I've been naked on the beach at Sitges but there's not a lot of chance to wander round naked in my normal life.
Silentvoice, I'm not volunteering either. I suspect 56 is a bit too old!
Robin, hi!
