Pain relief internet-style

Yesterday My Beloved and I took our bikes for a wonderful ride in Surrey, and when we got too hot we stopped by a cricket match and bought diet Coke at their bar and sat and watched. It was an idyllic English scene.

Then we got back on our bikes. Only I had a basket on the back of mine making it top heavy, so while I was faffing about with putting stuff away the bike fell over. I was holding the bike and didn’t let go in time, so as it fell it pushed my ankle back and pulled me over and I fell on top of it. Ouch!

By evening, the scrape on my wrist was very sore. So, in the spirit of pure scientific research, I tried out pain relief as endorsed by friends on Twitter.

Test results for pain relief out of 5

Wine: 2
Chocolate: 0
Ibuprofen: 5

Either wine isn’t as good at pain relief as some people suggest, or I needed more of it. The trouble is, if I’d had any more I’d have fallen over again!

Oh noes! Are you ok now!? Oh dear!! In circumstances as this I would always, always opt for medication - proper drugs! Kill/numb the pain is my motto - with drugs you can only get at the chemists!!

Then alcohol and then just in case. Chocolate! LOL! Take care

Kitty, I'm fine today, thanks! And in future I'll use your formula: drugs, alcochol and chocolate in that order!

Interesting article. I'm off to buy dark chocolate.

Glad you're feeling better today.

Lexi, dark chocolate is always good, whether you're in pain or not!

I've done the very same thing - apart from the physical damage I felt a right numpty! Not sure how scientific your reaearch was though? Were you mixing the wine and the Ibuprofen?

Simon, how could you question my research skills?

I had a sample size of one, I used all the substances I was testing at the same time, and I was squiffy when I evaluated the results. How much more scientific could I be?

Fascinating research results. No votes for acetaminophen?

One thing about ibuprofen: always be sure to eat something when you take it. Several doctors have told me it really rips apart your stomach lining if you take it on an empty stomach.

Peter, I thought the anti-inflammatory aspect of the ibuprofen would be useful!

I'm usually very careful with painkillers and I don't mix them with alcohol, but once I'd drunk the wine and was still in pain I needed to do something. At least I did remember to eat with the pills!
