Update

I saw the doctor who said there are two main things that could be causing the deafness, tinnitus, nausea and vertigo: labyrinthitis or Meniere's disease. She thinks it's not labyrinthitis because of the deafness and tinnitus but the patient UK leaflet said that this could be a feature.

Not that it matters because the treatment is the same: Stemetil for the nausea and vertigo and put up with the rest. When I'm taking the pills the room doesn't bob up and down when I walk, so that's a win!

I think I'll go on holiday anyway and take it easy. I've an overnight sleep on a boat but Stemetil is used for seasickness too, so I'll be fine. Probably.

One thing is off though: my Beloved and I were going to see Mamma Mia live tonight, and I can't cope with loud noises in the ear that is still working. It was our anniversary treat and now we have to find someone who wants our tickets.

I'm not going to let this get me down. I can still have fun. We won't have internet though so I'll miss all of you!

Ah yes, the wonders of medical science - which involves a lot of guesswork.

I'm on my third pill that's supposed to be making life easier. The first two made it worse. The second one was much worse. I have great hopes for this one, but it was one I requested - after some research and remembering something similar from my past.

The doctor was concerned I would gain weight on this one. I'd much rather pack on a few pounds than be in so much pain, personally. Sometimes I think their priorities are screwy.

I do hope this is the right course for you. It doesn't sound like much fun at all to have the room spinning and only be able to hear out of one ear. At least the room has stopped tilting!

Sorry to hear you can't see Mamma Mia. Have you seen the movie? Not the same as a stage play, but it's a lot of fun.

Enjoy your Holiday!!!

I think medicine is mostly guesswork! Unless you're very lucky with your doctor indeed. I'm sorry to hear that your pills made you worse.

I have a friend who finds weed very effective but of course it's illegal so they end up using tramadol which makes them sleepy and isn't so good.

At least you seem to have finally found a pill that works and as you say, what's a few pounds if you're out of pain?

I'm definitely better than I was but if I'm still having problems when I come back I'll ask to see a specialist ENT person.

We saw Mamma Mia on DVD and loved it so much we thought it would be good to see it live. And it will be when my ears get sorted out!

We couldn't get our money back at such short notice so we gave the tickets to one of the staff at a cafe we often go to. It's nice to think of the windfall it was for him and his g/f - we had people do stuff like that for us when we were younger. It's good to pass it on.

I may not be around much now - it depends how the time goes. Once we're in France I think we will be internet-free!

That's an amazing windfall. Glad you could pass it on. And I'm sure it was very much appreciated.

Have a great time.

Enjoy your hols in spite of your wayward labyrinths.

Oh, man. I'm sorry about the tintinitus (I'm sure I've spelled that wrong) but I admire your determination to enjoy the crap out of life anyway. Go Prickles, Go!

Thanks Simon, Sylvia, Whirl and Mother(!),

The stemetil helped with the nausea but I'm still totally deaf in that ear.

It didn't' stop me enjoying myself, though!
