You may have seen this when it came out but I'm a bit behind in my blog posts.

Advice for Writers

I rather like the advice to Try to leave out the part that readers tend to skip.

I wonder what your favourite piece of advice is.

LOL. Really, what better advice is there than that? I also like "Never give up."

Karen, Never Give Up is good!

Kitty, my goodness, such venom in that article! Nothing anyone could say would please the author!

Find another line of work.

To be honest, when someone tells me to never do this or that, and then qualifies it with "unless you're this or that already published author who did exactly that" I quit listening to them.

Absolute rules that aren't absolute aren't rules at all. They're just someone trying to sound important.

We do our best. There's nothing else we can do.

My advice is this: Write and rewrite until you're positive you can't make it any better. And then know that at least ten people will find at least 10 faults on every page.

That's the world of writing. haha

P.S. My verification word is "angersm". Maybe I should just go offline. haha

I took it that all of these writers were just sharing what works for them - except maybe Will Self who likes his grumpy old man persona. I found it mildly interesting.

Maybe I'm too tired to get angry!

Oooooooooeeeeee! How many trunk novels you reckon this Domonic Mitchell's got?

Must be some reason this guy's so bitter; I smell failed writer.

(the irony being, the only failed writer is one who gave up- and got bitter.)

M(R)p, I suspect you're right. Either that or he was having a very bad day!

My favourite piece of advice at the moment is "Stop talking about it and just write." I'm finding I'm doing a LOT of peripheral activity and not actually getting the words down, lately. This helps me to remember that until I finish the words, I haven't actually done my job.

(She said, having not written a bloody word today. Ooops)

sylvia, I hope the writing looks up! I've given myself permission to not write for a while.
