The Accidental Story

I wrote a story before breakfast.

I woke up this morning wanting to hold my old tarot cards in my hand. They've been in the loft for over a year and I haven't missed them but today I wanted them. I could remember the feel of them in my hands as I shuffled them, the edges of the cards soft from use. I remembered the bright, evocative pictures and the way they could be made to tell a story. I also remembered the frustration I use to feel that I could easily read the cards but that I had no real use for them. I don't believe that pretty pictures can tell us the future, much as I'd like them to.

I was thinking that I could make a story out of this, once I got up and dressed and down to my computer but the story kept writing itself in my head. So I found a notebook and a pen and wrote it down straight away.

This is what writing is meant to be like. I wish I could make it happen more often.

Yeeaahh. That's the way it is. Cool!

So. Tarot stories? Sounds intriguing. Is it finished, or just started? Do you think you'll submit it? Cool idea!

I think I need to hug it quietly to myself for the moment. It's a bit like a soap bubble - very pretty but don't put any pressure on it!

Understand completely. I'm thinking maybe I should have been more quiet about my latest inspiration.

Good luck with this. It sounds wonderful!

(Love the soap bubble analogy. Mind if I use it from time to time?)

Beautiful, FHH. So glad to hear you had such an inspiration. They are sometimes few and far between and meant to be treasured. I think it's that occassional gratification that keeps me writing.

There's a great amount of imagery in tarot cards and astrology. Plunder the lot.

Don't you love it when that happens?

BBJD Feel free!

Sarah It's what got me writing in the first place. I really need to get back to that place - or find another hobby!

Whirl You're right but it's not always clear to me how to do that.

freddie Yes, it was a great feeling.

It's a beautiful feeling - I wish it happened to me more, too. And next time it does, I must make a point of writing it down. It's very inspirational to read.

A soap bubble is a perfect description for a newborn story although now I have an image in my head of a woman hugging an arm full of soap bubbles in the middle of a green field somewhere. :)

Regarding plundering - one thing you could try is to write about one card a day for a set amount of time (I like 15 minutes but whatever) until you get through the pack and see what you end up with. I bet it'd be intriguing.

Sylvia I love your image of the woman in a field!

Maybe I need to find my decks and do what you suggest. Or do something with them. They can make good prompts but I prefer to take them at random.
