Happy New Year!

Christmas is over and now all I have to do is write "Thank you" notes. Lots and lots of "Thank you" notes.

In this cold, dark time of year we get one last shot at celebrations, except that I'm going to be getting an early night instead. Staying up late drinking just isn't on my list of things to do.

My sons are going to be watching DVDs until late with friends so I hope whatever they watch first is something that I'm going to want to see before I sneak off to bed. My husband will be watching Top Gear or dogfights on tv given the chance and I shall definitely be giving those a miss.

I suppose the New Year gives us all the chance to start again if we feel we need to. If your year has been a bad one, I wish you better times in 2009 and if you've had a good year then I wish you more of the same.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I'll be up for Jools Holland, then probably out in the frost for a clarifying stroll.

And in the morning, I face my 1st challenge of 2009: lunch with my mother-in-law.

I hear you, FH. Now that Son is older he wants to stay up to midnight. He did before, too, but never managed to stay up past ten-thirty. Now he can do it. Pity. My normal bedtime is between eight and nine - like his used to be. However, tonight I will do what I can to stay up with Son and Spouse. No alcohol for me, though. With my medications that would be a death sentence. I'll have Pepsi and ice water with Old Dutch Ripple Chips dipped in Hormel Chili (no beans).

You sound weary. I hope you're all right. Get a good night's sleep.

I hope your 2009 is just wonderful!

Lunch with the m-i-l? Run away! ;-)

Happy New Year to all!

I am tired, Bevie, thanks for noticing.

Whirl, take Sarah's advice, you know you want to.

Happy New Year to you all.

Happy new year! (LOL freddie)

Thanks, Robin. I'm amazed to realise that we met less than a year ago. I feel like you're an older friend than that (and old=good where friends are concerned).

Happy New Year to blogless troll and pjd and a big laugh for freddie.

I had Hubby's family here and we had drinks and the traditional cheese and crackers whilst watching the Hootenanny. I had a dodgy half hour there at 4am where I could feel the alcohol trying to take revenge so I got up took some Paracetamol and drank a pint of water. Result: absolutely fine this morning. After a Full English we had a bracing walk with the Pooch. So far 2009 is grand!

Hope you have a very Happy New Year FH and that 2009 brings you health, happiness and lots of good times.

Buddhists agree--New Year is a time for new opportunities and open doors! It's very nice, I think, that we don't have a system where time starts at the beginning and goes on indefinitely. Instead, we have nice natural breaks to help us maximize our potential happiness.

Happy New Year to you, too!

Robin B. said...

Absoluetly agree, FH!

I think we should get together when I come to Britain - I think my older daughter's graduation is in June, so we'll be there for a week. And, I may well come before, for a 'girl week' going to visit my daughter, my sister-in-law and my step-daughters.

Is it easy to get to you from London?

fairyhedgehog said...

Glad you staved off the dreaded hangover monster, Jane!

Happy New Year, moonrat, what nice thoughts to start the year with.

Robin: London (Waterloo) to Epsom is about 40 minutes by train and they run every 15 minutes. I can easily get up to London to meet you if it's easier that way.

Happy New Year and may you enjoy what it brings.

fairyhedgehog said...

Thank you, and to you too, mapelba!

Robin B. said...

I can do the train thing!

Are Janey and Whirl close, by any chance?

fairyhedgehog said...

I think Jane's close but I've no idea where Whirl is.

All trains go to London so sometimes it's easiest to meet there but you're all welcome to come here if you prefer.

JaneyV said...

I'm about an hour and 10 mins from London and would LOVE to do the train thing too!

How exciting!

Late to the party as always... when is this grand gathering to take place? I and family will be in the London area for two weeks in mid April.

fairyhedgehog said...

Hey, this could be cool. I wonder if Robin will be around in April?

Robin B. said...

Very cool!

I'll definitely look into April.

JaneyV said...

Pete too! Yay!

fairyhedgehog said...

Double yay!

We have to have plenty of time to hang out together, don't you think?

Let's think about how to do it - I just talked to my sistero-in-law in Somerset - and I told her I was definitely coming over for a week sometime in the spring! (I said for one of our 'girl weeks', but during the time I'm in London, Pete and Whirl can come, too.)

fairyhedgehog said...

It sounds great! We haven't heard from Whirl though so I don't know if he'll be able to come or not. Or if he'll even want to.

Sarah Laurenson said...

OK. So the plan is London in April? Will have to see if we can swing that.

fairyhedgehog said...

That would be so great if you could be there, Sarah!

Robin B. said...

This is getting better by the minute!

When we get some dates I'll see if I can find somewhere for us to meet up.

I spent boxing day watching Top Gear repeats on video (not my choice but very amusing - shhh, don't tell the boys I said so)

My son's bedtime is 11pm and I'm really struggling to stay up as long as him :/

fairyhedgehog said...

Not the dreaded Top Gear repeats!

I quite liked Top Gear until I'd seen the repeats far too many times. Now I tend to run away fast whenever it comes on.

There's only so much Jeremy Clarkson that anyone can take and I do get tired of smashing caravans.
