My book has run out

I've just finished Whit by Iain Banks for the second time. I really enjoyed the book, which is about the power struggles within a religious cult. The narrator, Isis, is naive about the outside world and when she is forced to make a journey to Babylondon to find her cousin and bring her back into the fold she gradually uncovers more and more secrets about the sect in which she grew up.

I found the book compelling. I love the way that Iain Banks can get into a character's head and his depiction of the way Isis thinks rings true.

My problem is that I've reached the end of the book so what do I do now? I can't bear to be without a book in my hand but I'm not ready yet to read something else So, I've started a knitting project and played garden darts with my husband and son.

When it comes to bedtime I'm going to have to give in and take the Ian Rankin book that's next on my list up to bed with me. I can't go to bed without a book.

What do you do when your book runs out?

I play videogames - and I mix and match book styles, so that if I've read something heavy and deep, my next book will be fluffy and light and won't distract my thinking process.

Mind you, I've been without a book for 2 days now. I started two new books and didn't like either of them and now I feel cursed and don't want to open up another one!

Two days! Without a book! No!

I don't usually go overboard on exclamation marks but this is a serious situation.

Tell us what you've got available and maybe we can make some recommendations for you.

By the way, nice to see you back commenting again.
